i am a woman. i live in this world.
these are my observations and reflections, recording large and small details of myself, my surroundings, and the media.
also i will try to gather bits and pieces concerning sex, gender, and just about everything i consider interesting and related to the topic.
this is not (only about) feminism.
i'm not saying i'm right. i'm just saying.
why
at the age of 4, i was introduced to the concept of gender, when i wanted to be a cowboy like my older brother, and not a farmer’s wife like the other girls.
at the age of 13, i was introduced to the concept of femininity, when i kept being rejected by boys of interest due to the lack of it.
at the age of 23, i simultaneously started behaviour therapy and shaving my body hair, both to cope with a previous abortion which had left me feeling marred and tainted, as if i had to do every normal woman one better, for good measure.
at the age of 29, i married a man who prefers my legs shaven but doesn’t mind sharing the chores.
in between those years and still, in every day life, i am and was confronted and bothered with prejudice, chauvinism and plain simple-mindedness, of both men and women. i am stunned or annoyed by the implicitness with which the world around me categorizes sex, gender, femininity/masculinity, by the ways this conflicts with my (self-)conception, and by the way those categories are used for accommodativeness, oppression, or profit.
